As of February 15, 2022, 13 out of 516 pressing mills in India have been pressing, with a cumulative sugar output of 22.091 million tons, an increase of 1.18 million tons year-on-year. 32 out of 496 pressing mills in the same period of the upper pressing season have been pressing.

Among the three sugar producing states, 197 sugar mills in Maharashtra have started pressing, producing 8.615 million tons of sugar, an increase of 1.069 million tons year-on-year. Last year, two out of 185 sugar mills have started pressing. The 117 sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh are still pressing, and 3 have been pressing, 1 less than last year, with cumulative sugar production of 5.932 million tons, 581,000 tons less than last year. Two out of 72 pressing mills in Karnataka have been pressing for a cumulative production of 4.485 million tonnes of sugar, up 578,000 tonnes year-on-year, compared with 17 out of 66 pressing mills in the same period last year.


According to trade sources, India has signed about 5 million tonnes of sugar export contracts so far, of which about 3.15 million tonnes were actually exported as of January 31, compared to 920,000 tonnes in the same period last year. It is reported that more than 800,000 tonnes of sugar will be shipped in February.
